Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1

Harry Potter mania has struck once again !! Or has it not ?? Well, thats the question i have been asking to  myself for the last two days. I was quite lucky to get a couple of tickets of the latest Harry potter flick just an hour before the show this sunday. Would you believe that ?? I mean just 2 days into the release and at a place where tickets are pre-booked quite fast , you dont actually fancy your chances of getting tickets at the counter at the last minute.

As always i would not be revealing the whole story here but  let me be honest here, its really hard  to  leave even the small bits and pieces of the story that makes a review complete and interesting. Now, With Dumbledore Dead, You-know-who has taken over everything. Harry, Hermione and Ron take the task of finding the remaining horcruxes and destroying them. Thats the Plot. I have not read the Book so cant relate much with real version of the story. Although i did feel that the story was little discontinuous here and there.  Like the previous 2 parts this  movie too starts and clings on a serious Note. You can see a lot more of emotion involving the three lead characters which from my point of view did make a sluggish impact at the middle . It looked as if the whole drama was being stretched to its maximum just to ensure that the movie is big enough so that the best could be saved for second part. Nevertheless, there were other things in this  part that were quite Enjoyable .

Visually the movie was as good as it gets. Most of the viewers would agree that the Animated visuals that were shown depicting the Deathly Hallows Tale were quite exceptional. Something out of the box that no would would have actually anticipated in a Movie that has been on talk for its extensive Special effects rather than animation. Sound effects , as usual, were good too. We, in the theater, were almost taken aback at a particular scene where Hermione and Harry take on a Huge Python .

Personally speaking, Dobby’s entry made a lot of impact on the later part of the movie.  The crowd broke into an applause when Dobby snaps  and says -“Dobby has no master. Dobby is a free elf. Dobby has come to save Harry Potter and his Friends ” 😛 . Something that i have never witnessed in the earlier  harry potter movies. Performances were good though not exceptional . Ron was at his Witty best delivering the humor content amidst, possibly the most serious situations 🙂 . Contrary to last year’s Harry Potter And the Half Blood prince, Director David Yates was able to strike the chord with the viewers much better with this year’s Installment of Harry Potter and the deathly hallows – Part 1 . It was pretty much evident from the reactions of the viewers. Overall the movie was Good , a bit lengthy , which might have been the effect of no intervals . But it Does leave u on a high note, asking for more action which has been left for the next and the last version of the Harry Potter Series.

First Question that u ask yourself when u leave a cinema hall is – Whether the movie was really satisfying and worth your money? Well, i would give a  definite Yes for that question. So What are you waiting for ??

Murder on the Orient Express – by Agatha Christie

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie

Latest edition to my bookshelf – Murder On the Orient Express by Agatha Christie.

People From Different nationalities, in a  coach that is  is unusually crowded at that time of the year , witness a murder right under their nose. With Too many clues at the crime scene, detective Hercule Poirot finds asking himself too many questions. How he finds solution to all these questions is something sensational that i wouldn’t reveal.

I dint know that the Book was actually later adapted to a Hollywood movie. I am glad i dint see the movie . I am a firm believer that movies can never replace books. You lose your imagination while watching movies so I would always go for books 🙂 .

Anyways coming back to the book, I must say i had a hard time keeping the book down. It was an Enjoyable ride throughout . No ups and Downs , none whatsoever, It took me almost85 percent of the book’s pages to guess the correct murderer. I am not a good reviewer , i know that: P , so without wasting my time and yours ofcourse, i can say that if you haven’t read the book  yet or watched the movie, Go and grab one right now. You are definitely missing something.

Enthiran (ROBOT) – Movie Review

No Spoilers !!

I cant think of  any movie that was being as eagerly awaited as this one and why not, just look at the names of the People Behind the Movie – Rajnikanth , Director Shankar, Aishwarya Rai , A. R. Rahman , Yuen Woo Ping as the stunt coordinator , Stan Winston Studios (special effects) and not to mention the Production house  SUN Pictures which backed the whole project with a whopping Indian Rupee symbol.svg160 Crores (and for the worldwide publicity) . And when names like these come together its natural to have an expectation beyond imagination.

Its not everyday, that your friend calls you  for a movie like Enthiran saying that he has got tickets for  weekend night show, at possibly , the best theater in the city. You dont get luckier than this 🙂 . And It is even more unlikely that during a time like this when you are high on mood waiting for the spectacle to began you realize that you are sitting on the Very First Row of the theater  😛 . You just feel like standing on the seat and to Cry out loud.. “MAAPU !!! Vichitaaan da Aaapu” 😛 . I guess this was only thing i regretted for the next 3 hours.

The movie sure ,unlike the other movies in the past, has lived upto its expectations (i mean my expectations 😛 )  . Before seeing the movie i had got a little “not so” promising remarks about the first half of the movie but i believe it could not have got any better.  All Credits to Director Shankar for believing in his script and waiting for almost  a decade for making this Historical movie Which might well be the opening for Sci- Fi Movies in the indian Cinema.  The Sheer flamboyance of Shankar’s direction can be seen in movie everywhere right from the Scene one. The locations for the songs couldn’t have been better  especially the ” kathal Anukkal “ which has been shot GOD KNOWS WHERE (please enlighten me ). I have never seen Special effects of such Quality in indian cinema ( Mind you, i am a big hollywood fan so i wont compare it to hollywood standards  ) although i feel , had the movie been under Hollywood Productions , the special effects could have been even better with even more budget 😀 . Stunt sequences were awesome ,the train one in particular ( leave alone the ROBO rajni running on the train 🙂 ) and I am really tired of actually saying that the music is good 🙂 . When A.R . Rahman is the Music Director, it has more or less become a default compliment associated with him 🙂 .

Rajnikanth politely declared in Enthiran why he is still acting at 60 . Although the movie is not exactly the Stereotype movies he normally selects , he has carried the whole movie and taken it to a different level altogether .  Sometimes it is really irritating to  find people mocking rajni and his so called exaggerated stunt scenes .  Yes,  he might have done something overboard but everyone in the industry too have done that at one point or the other, so why pick this man out. Better than mocking i think all those people should consider watching his old movies :X . Anyways lets come back  to the review, Rajni obviously stole the show through his ROBO character ” CHITTI ” . Honestly , there was nothing much in the movie when we talk about the performances. Almost 80 percent of the scenes has Ranji in it . I just felt as if there were just 3 characters in the whole movie (two of them being Rajni 😀 ).  Unbelievable but true.  There aren’t many Indian movies where you would actually be enjoying a villain’s character and i can assure  you that this one is one such kind .

Songs although wonderfully shot, sometimes appear to have been introduced just for the visual treat, like the “kilimanjaro” which seem to have no proper reason of being there.  Some action sequences in the climax too appear baseless but in indian cinema you are bound to watch those even though u dont like it 🙂  and yeah the funniest of all where Rajni talks to a mosquito ,it is actually not something that i expected from shankar’s movie 😛 .

Inspite of those things that i mentioned above i wouild still rate the  movie 7 out of 10. Please do watch the movie just to witness -the flamboyance shankar has given to the indian cinema,   life that Rajni gave to the ROBO character called Chitti ,  Music that was equally complimented by the superb locations they were shot and may be, on a lighter note , even for the kisses Aishwarya Gives to Rajni (almost double her age) 🙂 .

My Friendly advice for those  who love to watch a movie just to find logic behind the scenes is just avoid the movie rather than lamenting later 🙂 and yeah, once again for all those Who dont like Rajni, you should start watching his earlier movies first 🙂 .

And I being a Rajnikant Fan would be surely watching it once again ( atleast ) 🙂

PS: Did I say that one of scenes in the movie was shot at My office (Olympia Tech Park, Guindy 🙂 )

Roadside Romeo – A must watch !!!!

Well , I was quite apprehensive to go and watch the movie . I was like sheeesh !!! bollywood and animation movie  ??? .   WTF !!! Only reason i went was i dint want to miss this blogger’s meet after messing up the plans during the previous one . Had a real great time there with all of them . It was fun seeing A running and playing his heart out .He was such a cutie .Anyways coming back to the movie , first thing i would like to say is clear your misconceptions its definitely not a Kids movie . Infact elders would love the movie much more .

Every scene in the movie has been made in bollywood ishtyle 😛 . With Hero ,heroine , heroes’ friends and a villian , the movie is pure stereotype bollywood flick 😛 . Of course all characters are DOGS 😛 but that’s what makes the movie even more funny  and a treat to watch . Can u imagine a dog (Romeo-hero) being struck by cupid and a villain (charlie anna )who too fancies his chances of making Laila (the bitch ,no pun intended 😛 ) his girl freind  😛 .

The characters are just amazing ,be it the “chamcha” of charlie anna , the cat (romeos freind) , the cute little rat that gives special appearance every once in a while or the charlie Anna himself  ,all of them are fun filled goofy charecters . Special mention to charlie’s (anna’s) angles – silk sumitha , nylon nalini and polyster padma 😛 ( people from south would relate to that very well )

The whole movie is pictured on the streets making the name Roadside romeo a complete apt title . Every detail in the movie looks so real in the sense that the shops ,cars in the background are exactly the way u see in ur neighbourhood . A complete Desi effect 😛 . The dialogues and dubbed voices are just awesome . Javed jaffery Is simply the best . He has complemented charlie anna’s charecter very well . iist aar vest charli anna bestttt 😀 .

From the very first frame  ,the movie is addictive .  Even after the movie Got over we were glued to our seats .Like many movies they showed animated behind the scenes of the movie . When people  realized ,they stopped in the middle of the aisle and started watching it . I think this movie has taken Indian animation movies to a new level . Only regret i had after coming out of the cinema hall was that it could have been a little long . I wanted to see more of charlie Anna 😛  . Nevertheless it was a complete entertainer .

Peppy dance numbers with dogs shaking their hips , goofy characterizations , unbelievably hilarious dialogues and the handsome , dashing villain charlie anna make the movie a must watch whether u are a kindergarten kid or 60 year old veteran  😛 .

Thats all folks . In charle anna style .

Aeengilssssss De Enddddddddddddd !!!!

I  will leave u with this COOL song 🙂

THE DARK KNIGHT

The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight

Saw The DARK NIGHT oops KNIGHT recently (2 days back) at the same theater where i saw IRON MAN and if you are one of my regular readers u must be knowing how bizarre my last trip to that theater ( SATYAM multiplex) had turned out to be . So to avoid all the problems i had to face last time i decided to start from my house well before time and ended up reaching there 1 hour before the show time 😦 .

Well ,lets come to the movie. Quite frankly i have always found BATMAN as the most boring of all the superheroes but i think i have to accept that this movie has changed my opinion completely . The movie was just AWESOME!!!. Two and a half hours of spectacle that u would witness would be sure to make such an impact that u cant ignore thoughts creeping in even after the movie gets over.. 150 mintues is long for an Hollywood movie by any standards but the movie has everything in it that would make it an enjoyable and thrilling ride .

I must say that this must be one of the best superhero movies i have ever seen. The movie deviates From the normal conventional and stereotype superhero action movies where you have the super hero fighting his ass off to make the world better. Yes ,the batman does involve in some rescuing acts in this movie but it goes unnoticed before the Heath ledger’s ( joker ) role of a psychopath.

HEATH LEDGER - JOKER
HEATH LEDGER – JOKER

The movie has an unusual importance for the Joker’s character . Joker’s performance has to be the best i have seen from any villian. He plays a role of a psycho. The make up that had been given to accentuate the inner character was superb whihc makes him even more terrifying . He makes an impact from the very first scene he shows up . He is cruel , he is terrifying and yes he is intelligent .Every expression he makes looked natural which brought an unbelievable amount of life to his psychotic character.

ThIs would be one of the very rare movies in which you would enjoy a villain’s charecter more than the heroes .I had to admit that christian bale’s (batman) role was totally overshadowed by heath ledger’s stand out performance. No wonder Talks have been going for an oscars already . He was just amazing every time he was around .

Special effects and stunt sequences are simply superb , a special mention to a car chase involvving police van, joker and the batman would be a must . The scene lasts for a looong time until BATMAN’s car is thrown away by a bazooka. There was a huge roar ,when without warning Batman suddenly pops out form his car in a thing that looked like a bike with MRF tyres fitted and AK 47 on both sides 😀 . What ever that thing was it looked awesome .

Aaron Eckhart who plays the role of Harvey dent was good too .He added Something which made the script even more powerful and interesting . His make up for the later part of the movie was just excellent .Reminds me of the movie MUMMY . Quite scary i would say .

The movie ends as usual with BATMAN fleeing and the government blaming him for some deaths which makes it easy for the director for another sequel .

On the whole the movie was superb ,a huge applause which followed in the hall after the movie got over said it all .I would recommend this movie to every one , including those who stay away from action movies.WATCH IT !!! not to catch up a super hero flick but for the sake of late HEATH LEDGER’s wonderful performance .
