This is atrocious , unfair and unacceptable . I should have written this post a long ago but i guess enough is enough..i cant wait to show my disgust here . Any idea why i am restless and ranting here .Well , ok fine , i will tell you . Remember 6 or 7 years ago idea of a set top box was introduced .yeah the one which was never implemented except in one place .Any guess ??? yeah ,the place is chennai .
4 years ago I was surprised to see that the place actually has set top boxes implemented but 99 percent people were not using it . First reason , the set top box costed around 4000 bucks that time and second , People here were happy to see the free channels like sun tv , jaya tv etc etc (all tamil channels ) and the sick soaps they telecast . but slowly it turned into frustration i couldn’t watch any of my favourite channels . NO star movies no HBO ,no axn ,no discovery , no set max and what the hell no Espn ,star ports too .Could you imagine a cable without these channels . The main reason y i am disgusted is while the whole nation watched matches live on Tv I had to see the scores on a news channel . Thank god atleast they spared the new channels 🙂 . Now that the grand IPL is going on i have no way to watch the matches 😥 .
i cant understand if other cities have not implemented this set top box thing why only in chennai. I am tired of watching the same old crappy channels the local cable operators give. 50 percent of the channels here are crappy tamil channels ,then other 50 percent comprises of music channels , news channels and yeah ofcourse channels like jetix ,chutti and pogo . what the hell ??
There are two options left for me either i should pay for the set top box (some say that it is now being distributed free because no body was buying it 😛 ) and get all the pay channels or else would have to call guys from tata sky to have theor connection . Anyways , i have to make sure that i don’t miss too many IPL matches otherwise what would i blog 🙂 and now that i have to stay in home till i get my joining date kiling time with the sun tv’s and jaya tv’s arround would be a difficult task 🙂

Buy Tata Sky its better then anything else, though their remote and interface is bit slow that one can ignore coz. they have good customer service after all.
If you buy standalone set top boxes and dishes, you might face problem pointing them to the respective satellites for getting paid channels or package of paid channels. However, that also give you liberty to get channels of Non Indian origins like playboy ,tb6 etc 😉 (some paid,others free) , requires a little tweaking though….
I also had Dish tv DTH, and they are real pain in the wrong place…poor customer service etc.

I have a DishTV connection and its good. But I think its not that expensive anymore. And after you install it once, its just 300 Rs per month. I think its quite fine. Although I don’t watch much television, but its a good feeling that all the channels are there in my TV. Atleast they can be utilised at the time of crisis. 😉
Yea, get DishTV or TataSky. I did get a Set Top Box recently for Rs. 500 and enjoyed a number of super clear channels for 1 day. Then suddenly our cable operator decided to change from Win Cable to some other cable and the Set Top Box became useless. And I got all the flak because I was the one who forced everyone to get it.
I guess some cable TV operators are giving Set Max channel also along with other free channels whenever cricket matches are on. You can ask your cable operator to do that. Anyway I have set top box and it’s good. But I haven’t bought the set top box instead rented it.

hmmm..well , i would try to convince that to my parents. ..cuz i dont stay at home that much so they would argue that 300 rupees is costly when no body would be ther to watch it 😛

Hmm..that convincing parents about anything is tough. 😀 I also had a hard time doing that when we got a cable connection some years ago. But now they are so hooked to it that they can’t live without it. 🙂

Lol… I can understand your plight… Nowadays, there’s no use complaining about TV channels… All the channels from Playboy to Sun TV is available online, free of cost… Go to a site called sopcast, download their sopcast player and enjaay!! 😀
Better still, if u wanna watch all these channels from home, get a Dish TV connection… It’s nationwide and its cheap… 🙂
Btw, Did u get the book? It was supposed to reach u on Saturday thro Blue Dart…

Yeah… In Chennai its a big problem.. They thinking of introducing the same thing in other cities like Bangalore too. I hope that doesnt happen 😦
